2017 class portrait and awards

At the annual SMS picnic in the Whitaker courtyard on May 3, graduating students in attendance gathered for a portrait and departmental awards for 2017 were announced. In addition to established awards, two new prizes were given for the department’s first annual research symposium held last month. Congratulations to our award winners:

Bradley Stoughton Student Award, presented to an outstanding senior student in the Materials Science and Engineering Department: Amanda L. Ruschel

Kahn Memorial Award, presented to a senior student outstanding in materials science and engineering: Allison E. Fraser

Allen S. Quier Prize, awarded to a senior student in recognition of outstanding progressive achievement in scholastic work in materials science and engineering: Julia S. Kuhn

Handwerk Prize, presented to a student for outstanding achievement in the fields of chemistry, materials science and engineering, or earth and environmental sciences: Allison E. Fraser

Harmer Prize, Materials Science and Engineering Citizenship Award: Yunhao Li

Gilbert Doan Award, presented to a sophomore student for outstanding performance in academics and work-study activities: Daniel J. Thomas

Conard Award, presented to an outstanding graduate student: Anthony P. Ventura

Gilbert Doan Faculty Award, given by the senior class: Richard Vinci
