Kiely elected as fellow in Learned Society of Wales

Chris Kiely, professor in the department of Materials Science and Engineering and directors of both the Electron Microscopy Facility and the Lehigh Microcopy School, has been elected as a Fellow of the Learned Society of Wales.

The Society is for persons with a particular connection to Wales who have a demonstrable record of excellence and achievement in an academic discipline or profession who have made distinguished contributions to the world of learning — in particular, through fundamental and applied research.

Kiely was born and raised in Cwmbran, a town in South Wales, and attended school in nearby Pontypool.

Kiely’s election was in 2015, and he plans to participate in the inauguration at the society’s annual meeting in May 2016. “It is a lovely honor to have been elected to this Fellowship,” says Kiely, “and be counted amongst such a distinguished group of individuals from Wales.”
